The Montessori Learning Centre design proposal sets this special education institution on a narrow and very steeply sloped lush site in a residential neighborhood. The school aims to respect the neighborhood scale and preserve the existing site ecology by incorporating several lush and wild gardens. The materials used are as local and natural as possible, combining exposed Nairobi stone and timber.
The roof lines of the various detached and meandering structures contribute to the center’s village sensibility. They also create defined outdoor learning spaces, effectively reducing the scale of the campus. This design approach promotes a harmonious integration of the learning environment with the surrounding natural landscape.
