What became known as “The lost lagoon”, this is to be a resort on Futaisi Island, a desert island 5 kms from the south of Abu Dhabi. The island is reached by a 10-minute boat ride through the channel. His Highness the Shaikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nanyan wanted a resort that covered all types of leisure, while at the same time preserving the natural beauty of the land. He had a clear policy of protecting the island and the environment. The resort is to comprise of 200 rooms (of which there are 3 types) with simple finishes. 30-50 rooms are to be completed during phase 1. There are two proposed sites; site 1 has a very shallow sea which could result in the sand being dredged, while site 2 takes away the ‘city escape’ as it has a view of the Dubai skyline.
