Dutco Sand Island

The original brief indicated 10-11, 1 and 2 bedroom, self-contained up-market chalets on a man-made island (concept design can determine shape of the island). Facilities on the island should include a helipad and a jetty. The design is to be along a traditional ethnic Dubai character. Challenges to PLANNING included the lack of exact shape/ location, due to wind direction, sun rise/set and currents.

As the project progressed, the brief changed to 6, large single-story suites with 8 additional blocks, for 4 people per unit, accommodation for 30 staff (previously 10) and back of house to contain store, shed, and sewage. Unless the island increased in size, this would not be possible as more mechanical and electrical space was needed.
