The Architectural Company PLANNING Systems Services Ltd holds nineteen International and twenty six National Awards and Commendations for architectural excellence. These formal acknowledgments internationally and nationally sets the company in a class of its own in East Africa.
At the Architectural Association of Kenya’s Duracoat Awards for Excellence in Architecture ceremony in February 2016, buildings designed by PLANNING received the following awards:
Winner: Best Commercial Building Project - Kenya Commercial Bank Headquarters, Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya.
Winner: Best Educational Institution Project - Braeburn Garden Estate, Kiambu, Kenya.
Winner: Best Health Care Project - Pamoja Shell of Steel, Kenya.
Winner: Best Urban Design / Town Planning Project - Nairobi Intervention, Nairobi, Kenya.
Winner: First Runner Up: Best Concept / Ongoing Project - Nairobi Intervention, Kipande Road Zone, Nairobi, Kenya.
Winner: First Runner Up: Best Educational Institution Project - Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, Kenya.
Winner: Second Runner Up: Best Residential Building Project - Sultan Palace Beach Retreat, Kikambala, Kenya.
Winner: Honourable Mention: Best Commercial Building Project - Imperial Health Sciences Building, Mlolongo, Kenya.
Winner: Honourable Mention: Best Concept/Ongoing Project - The Community Cooker, Kenya.
In June 2011, at the Architectural Association of Kenya’s 40th Anniversary celebration, buildings designed by PLANNING received the following awards:
Gold Medal: Leisure / Recreational - Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club, Nairobi, Kenya
Gold Medal: Planning - Lake View Estate, Lower Kabete, Nairobi, Kenya
Award for The Best Land Use Plan from the Government of Kenya (Ministry of Nairobi Metropolitan Development).
In the housing field, PLANNING was responsible for the design of the multi award winning Lakeview Estate in Lower Kabete, as well as Imara Daima Housing Estate and Komarock Phase I in Nairobi.
PLANNING has pioneered affordable housing in East Africa. In Berlin in June 2002 the PAMOJA prototype house was a finalist in the WORLD ARCHITECTURE AWARDS. PAMOJA was nominated for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture for 2004.In October 2008, PLANNING was awarded the Cityscape Architectural Award for the Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel Spa. PLANNING has also been advised that their Uaso Nyarobe Development was commended in the Big Urban Project category in the MIPIM Architectural Future Projects Award for 2009.In August 2008, PLANNING was nominated for two very significant awards; The 2008 International Property Award for Europe & Africa for Elsa’s Kopje in Meru Park and at the World Architecture Festival held in Barcelona, PLANNING’S Community Cooker was shortlisted as one of eight projects selected from over 700 entries from 63 countries for finals adjudication.
